EnviroChemie is planning and building a water treatment and a water polishing plant for the production of green hydrogen for a large-scale plant manufacturer in Germany.
The water used to produce green hydrogen in electrolysers is subject to particular quality requirements. High-purity water that is free from minerals and salts is needed for the electrolysis process. The efficiency of the electrolyser depends on the water quality.
A large-scale plant manufacturer based in Germany initially commissioned EnviroChemie with the engineering of the water treatment plants that will supply water to a 100 MW PEM electrolyser.
Now EnviroChemie has also been awarded the contract to build the plant technology. Water from a decentralised pretreatment plant is treated using an Envopur ION ion exchanger system to produce high-purity water. A second Envopur ION unit equipped with a mixed-bed polisher resin is used for water polishing.
The water treatment plants are scheduled to go into operation in early summer 2026.
