The Oldenburg and East Friesian water board (Oldenburgischer-Ostfriesischer Wasserverband; OOWV) is implementing a pioneering project at its Nordenham wastewater treatment plant to generate process water from wastewater for industrial purposes. From summer 2026, purified wastewater from the municipal wastewater treatment plant will be supplied to the chemical company Kronos Titan via a 5.5 km long process water pipeline.
A combined solution by EnviroChemie, comprising Envopur® ultrafiltration and Envopur® reverse osmosis technology, will treat the processed wastewater to make it suitable for use as process water. Kronos Titan will then use this process water for various applications, including filtration and steam generation.
The facility is set to provide 1.1 million cubic metres of process water annually and forms a crucial component of Kronos Titan’s sustainability strategy. Moreover, using the process water will alleviate capacity pressures on the OOWV water treatment plant in Großenkneten, Germany.
“We are proud to be making a key contribution to this pioneering sustainability project. It is further proof of how cutting-edge technologies empower us to use resources responsibly and make a positive contribution towards protecting the environment,” concludes Klaus Dickhoff, Head of Sales at EnviroChemie.
Construction is scheduled to begin in autumn 2024.
