A German manufacturer of plant-based foods develops and produces organic products such as drinks made from soya, oats, hemp and spelt, tofu, and plant-based yoghurts. With strong demand, production has been scaled up several times. For more than ten years, EnviroChemie has repeatedly adapted the wastewater treatment system to accommodate scale-ups in production capacity. The production wastewater, which is primarily contaminated with organic solids, fats and oils, is treated before being discharged into the local sewer system.
To manage and balance the fluctuating wastewater streams, whose volume and composition vary as a factor of production processes, EnviroChemie initially implemented an oil separator and catch basin with neutralization capabilities, designed to handle 120 m³ wastewater a day. Three years later, EnviroChemie enhanced the wastewater treatment system to accommodate a scale-up in production by adding a fully automated Lugan® 15.000 flotation system housed in the EnviModul technical room. This upgrade increased the capacity to 250 m³ of wastewater per day.
In response to a further production scale-up a few years after this, EnviroChemie supplied water technology with a total capacity of up to 1,000 m³ wastewater per day. To achieve this, the plant was upgraded with a 700 m³ aerated balance tank, which balances the fluctuations in pollutant levels in the production wastewater. The Lugan® 15.000 flotation system continues to treat the wastewater, consistently meeting the regulatory limit values for pH levels and lipophilic substances.
This approach enables the plant-based food manufacturer to operate a high-performance water treatment solution tailored to its production, reliably processing wastewater for safe discharge. EnviroChemie has supported the customer for a decade, implementing the necessary water technology upgrades as needed.
